Continued Support for the Cultural Arts
Miami Beach has a long history of being a center of the arts. We have a thriving artist community today; the New World Symphony, Miami City Ballet and many others.
Groups like CANDO and members of the Collins Park Association are working today to encourage imaginative and creative people from all backgrounds to consider Miami Beach home.
The city has infused large amounts of tax payer dollars into renovating the Colony and Byron Carlyle Theatres. The city should encourage various theater groups to consider making one of these venues a permanent home; a resident theater company in the Byron Carlyle would be a great anchor for our plan to enliven the pedestrian friendly plan for the Ocean Terrace to Normandy Circle corridor. I pledge to work with my fellow commissioners to continue the city's long standing tradition of funding significant cultural programs.
